Being the daughter of royalty
Ain’t all it’s cracked up to be
So I hide behind a change of my name
But it doesn’t cloak the monument
Of my own history, or efface a lifetime of shame
By Fate’s good humour I was but
A living proof of indiscretion
Rough and rude I was when I came to court
He called upon advisors near and wide
Under pretense of my protection
Yet it was I who would fall on the sword
“Bow your head before the King! Come and claim your loyalty
Hitherward on bended knee, or don’t approach at all!”
I tried to be amenable, I tried to be conformable,
Alone, high in my tower, I obeyed.
And every time I tried to find a little truth in my direction,
I was cast a traitor and betrayed.
“Bow your head before the King! Respect my authority!
Kiss my feet from bended knees, or don’t appear at all!”
Then finally the time did come, that I felt called to go away,
To at last abdicate that throne once and for all.
In truth, I’d like to make amends,
And rule beside him once again,
But I must refuse to sink to that crawl.
“Bow your head before the King! Renounce your Sovereignty!
Come again on bended knee, or don’t return at all.”
